boiler bill

the people who bought my house are trying to send me a bill for the boiler. I am refusing to pay as it is caveat emptor. Is the only recourse to them to take this this to a small claims court?

yes - they cannot claim after they have completed - unless you fraudulently gave them incorrect informaton
what are they claiming for ?0 -
the got a bill, for £460.00. My gas engineer said the boiler was a bit old a noisy, but worked, it was serviced the week before we left. I wonder what they spent the £460.00 on!!0

I note that you say "caveat emptor", rather than "there was nothing wrong with the boiler"
However, did the purchaser or their solicitor ask any boiler-specific questions? Did you make any specific comments on the SPIF or anywhere else as to the condition of the boiler?
It would be normal for a survey to be undertaken and the surveyor would advise the P to seek their own checks on the heating system. Has the Ps letter come direct from them or from their solicitor?0 -

Many thanks. My lawyer has written to them so say it was working when we left. I think they are very unlikely to get a penny from us. I suspect indatlling a new boiler would be costly because of the flsh and the labour.0

Cross posted so hadn't seen this. Provided that you haven't said anything untrue during the sale/purchase proceedings and you have clear servicing paperwork/your Gas Safe bloke will verify what you say about the servicing, then thank them for their letter and tell them that you regret that you are unable to help as you had the boiler serviced on a x date and it was working satisfactorily at the time of completion. You may want to make a brief phone call to your conveyancer to clarify your situation.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. In any case they had just a valuation, not a proper survey, on the cheap I reckon!!0
