Insurance quotes suddenly gone up???

Options
Hi guys i'm new around here so i hope this is in the right place.

I'm 22 and looking to buy my first car. I've been looking around for a while now and finding a car and a decent insurance quote was fine..... untill recently.

I was hoping to finally get a car this month but suddenly insurance quotes have rocketed for no apparent reason.

I even brought up an old quote from a few weeks ago on Aviva, recalculated it without changing a single thing and it went up by nearly £700!!!

The only thing i can think of is because of all the snow meaning an increase in claims.

If anyone's got any theories/solutions then please help!!

    " no apparent reason " ?

Tons of reasons. Uninsured drivers, Scammers and No Win No Fee companies fleecing them.

These days it seems to take ages to get your car repaired and the hire car and excess charges added on
    bumps of the premiums.

Dont forget the insurance companies bumper profits.

I presume you dont have any no claims discount so after a few years of careful driving you will get cheaper insurance,
But of course prices will have risen by then. So you will be paying about the same.

  • I know i was never going to get a bargain quote without any no claims, but the quotes jumped up hundreds of pounds around a week ago, literally overnight.

I don't really know the ins and outs of car insurance, but it just seems strange entering exactly the same details, for the same car, with the same insurer and being a lot more expensive.

My god buying a first car is hassle :)

OP if your last quote is within 30 days then you can get the insurance company to honour that quote.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

One explanation may be that the insurance companies have just recently decided your postcode is a much higher risk area. Although they don't tend to do this simultaneously afaik, so its strange if they all have. Have you just done aviva or done a comparison?

Also been mentioned on here i think online comparison quotes get dearer if you try the same quote
a few days later. True or not?

Dreading my renewal quote which is due soon, My sisters went up £70 with the same company.

Many (many) moons ago when i was a callow youth in my 20's i had a similar problem trying to insure a car after just passing my test,

ended up buying a fully built Kit Car, as insurance was about 1/4 of the price of a similar 'standard' car, not sure if it's still true today but had bundle of fun driving a 1930's style convertible kit car

    - try searching on Kit car site on t'interweb for specialist brokers
