Any Help &/or Advice please
My Daughter is going to university in September 2011,she has been diagnosed as suffering with Auto-Immune Hypothyroidism & also has a form of dyslexia.
we have been told that there is financial assistance available to her,but not where to look for this,we will be going to the CAB for advice.
If anyone has been through this process & would give us any advice it would be appreciated.
Thanks in Advance

She needs to contact the uni disability student services who will help her complete the forms.ONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0

The form is relatively easy to fill in and I'd suggest filling it out when she's applying for student finance rather than waiting until she actually gets to university. This will increase her chance of having the support in place when she arrives.
Her college may be able to help her fill it in but to be honest I've always filled it in myself and been fine. She should ask her doctor to write a letter to say what her conditions are and more importantly how these conditions may affect her studies.
There is a tick box on the student finance form to say whether you want to apply for DSA and also whether you want the SLC to inform the disability services at the university that you're applying for DSA so they can help support you.0 -
Hi,
I know someone who has dyslexia who applied for DSA funding quite late (4 weeks prior to the term starting) and they still have not sorted it out! So I will strongly agree with MRSMANDA's comment as there is a lot of waiting around for things to happen so student finance forms need to be done ASAP. Your daughter will have to have what they call a needs assessment after DSA agree that she is eligiable, again I would book this ASAP.
The support that you recieve for dyslexia (and I suppose other disabilities) you do not actually see the money in your bank account but things like laptops, support lessons, recording devices (depending on the needs assessment) and other bits are directly paid for.
Hope this helps!0
