Washer/Dryer - door wont open - help!

Hi our washer dryer was working ok - did a load of washing today took some out to dry on the radiator left some towels and dressing gown in the dryer - was on an hour and beeped to say it had finished.

When I came to get the clothes out the door will not open.

I have tried several times and put it back on to dry for another 10 mins but still stuck.

Cant see any water in there, clothing looks very dry/crumpled.

Will be really stuck without a washing machine:(

Its an AEG Lavamat 16810 turbo electronic.

We do have it covered on a British Gas plan but with all the bad weather am sure they will be ages as not priority with all the calls they must be having both heating/pipes in the freeze.

Is there anything I can try and do just to get the washing out?

In the ideal world we would have a washing machine and a seperate dryer but only got a tiny kitchen. Our wiring is not great here - looking to get complete re wire done next year so dont want to mess with anything really.

I will try turning it off at the mains for a bit but switch is behind it and not sure I can drag it out on my own.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks had a go at this but think this is the mnext model up so catch maybe a bit different? Cant thread string through.

Got British Gas cover plan so phoned them but cant come before end of the week due to fixing broken boilers left, right and central at the mo.

Will have to resort to old fashioned hand washing and radiator drying until then and if they cant get out or get it fixed by the weekend Il have to taxi it to/from a laundrette:(

This happened to me a year ago. I paid £80 for a call out and was just a dodgy catch, took him seconds. Lucky for you having a plan.
no help I'm afraid but good luck with it. A month after the £80 dish out mine packed up for good, I hope you are luckier!

Ask the repairman if he's willing to take the interlock out of circuit, then you'll always be able to release the mechanical latch. Admittedly, even when it's full of water...

Will ask Dad to ask them when they come out. It could be the latch, I also wonder if its blocked somewhere with gunk as we usually get raised eyebrows over the eco products we use, and the fact Im always washing on 30/40 max.

Was due to use that clean out cycle wash programme after being advised to last time it broke - we had to pay for a new door seal a while back as gas did not cover that.

This machine is not really reliable and does get heavy use, I think the time will come soon to replace it, maybe its a better plan to go for just a washing machine not a combined washer dryer as the dryer is so poor.

Trouble is got nowhere to put a seperate dryer, got to look at a full re wire next year so maybe once thats done i can put one in the garage.

Am so glad we took out this kitchen appliances plan as it covers washer/dryer/cooker and fridge freezer - have had to call them out several times so has been worth paying it.

    Thanks for all the ideas:)
