vendor holding up sale

I had my cash offer accepted in writing from the estate agent in May of this year. I then paid my solicitor to carry out a 'search' of the property. The vendor then introduced a new clause to state that he would only move when he found a suitable property. The estate agent, my solicitor and myself are becoming increasingly frustrated by this waiting that could, in effect, take years. Does anyone know if I have any rights in this or should I just give it up as a lost case? The estate agent has contacted the vendor who assured the agent that he was 'still looking'.

    I'd be inclined to give up on it if he hasn't yet found a property. He can't be serious about the sale, otherwise he would have suggested that he goes into rented having kept you waiting for so many months.

    There are plenty more properties out there waiting for you, so start looking is what I'd suggest.
    The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

    I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    I would suggest you set a deadline for him to have found somewhere. In the meantime keep your eye out for other properties where the vendors are ready to move.
