You are assuming the dog is peeing for the sake of peeing rather than she has a full bladder and needs to go. :(

Unless the OP leaves her heating on all night then it is mean to shut a dog in a crate with no bedding overnight.

no obviously the dog needs to go, but bedding (as i said in my last post) give the dog the option to push the mess away from it, so it is less likely to do it if there is no bedding.

Im not saying it as a permenant fixture, its short term since she learns to hold it.

Besides, the dog doesnt NEED to go, not to the point that it pees in the space of 4 hours, dogs can hold it much much longer than that. She has just not learnt to hold it

  • The most useful thing I have taught my dogs is to widdle/poop on command. They know exactly what is expected when I ask them to 'go wee' or 'be quick' they'll even have a try if they don't need it. This was done through LOADS of praise and repeating these phrases when they were young and doing their business. They learnt this at 18 months although my previous dog learnt much younger. I did look like a nutter whilst teaching them and to see two giant dogs running up to me for a congratulatory cuddle after 'being quick' must be quite a sight! It does mean they go to bed empty which reduces the risk of any accidents, they are also not fed anything after eight pm (water is always available).

Thats the thing, at her age she should be able to hold it the 5 hours i'm gone and at night. My mums dog holds his all night and when she visits us on saturdays she is gone the whole day and he still holds it for when she gets home so i know they can. I have seen her since you mention it trying to push her wee away when she does it if I don't get her out of the crate in time so I may take her bedding away just for during the day but at night i'm going to try her in my bedroom in a dog bed without being crated to see what happens but i'm going to wait as my bedroom is a tip.

My dogs can hold it for over 10 hours if need be, obviously I dont leave them alone for that long but we dont get up at a set time so on days we're off work we let the dogs wake us up, normally they're still asleep after 12 hours!!

My dog is 2 years old and is also a wee-camel. However some of that is habit, she has not learnt that it is not acceptable to let it out indoors.

I am presuming of course OP that you have had a vets check just in case there is a physical problem?
