Will I be entitled to insurance for the following holiday nightmare

Hi there, Wonder if anyone can help. We were supposed to travel from Aberdeen to Glasgow to fly to Alicante. Roads were treachorous and almost unpassable and unsafe so we decided to go by train - bad decision - all trains from Aberdeen were cancelled on Friday because of the weather so we could not go. I know that we are not entitled to any compensation because we could not get to the airport but now because of the traffice controllers strike in Spain it looks like the flight may not now go - it was due to go out yesterday morning - Saturday 4th Dec - at 6.30 a.m. and is still showing as scheduled on the live notice board for Glasgow airport - this is at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday . If this is cancelled - or even because it is now over 24 hours and has not gone - can we claim compensation for our holiday even though we have not been stuck in the airport for 24 hours. We thought we would just have to write of the money but wondered if we can now get some back because it looks like flight will not go. Also this was a package holiday for one week in Benidorm - if I can claim who would I go through - the travel agent or the insurance company. thanks

Read your tour operator's terms and conditions. Most give you a right to cancel with a full refund if delayed by 24 hours or more. If so ring them up now and cancel. Don't wait until the flight has gone.

I think you may need to have checked in in some cases before the flight was cancelled to be able to claim against the airline UNLESS the airline gave instructions not to travel to the airport.

You really need to find if this was the case with your flight.

Yes, if you didn't get to the airport to check in the airline won't give you a letter which will be necessary to make an insurance claim. However , just before giving up altogether, look to see if you have disruption to public transport cover in your policy, usually covers up to £300 for a replacement flight if trains are unable to operate and you might still be able to go even if its only for 4 or 5 days
