loft ladders & hatch

i'm just about to place an order to have loft ladders installed but my query is regarding my hatch. At the moment the door opens inwards so i'm guessing i'll need a door putting on that drops down? Can they put a drop down hatch on the current frame?
i don't want a small job to turn into a much bigger one as removing the frame will damage the plaster etc - i'm watching the pennies at the moment.
thanks.

The hatch and ladder can be all in one and if the price is fitting included then they will open the hatchway up to suit the ladder
Look at the pics on this one

we had one similar fitted a few years agoHave a nice day0 -
i know but i was wondering if they can use my current trap door frame. if i need a new frame then it's gonna damage the plaster on the landing ceiling and that's what i'm trying to avoid.0

what sort of ladder have you been looking at ?
If its same as the one in the link then i doubt they will use your existing hatch door
If they do damage the plaster (which they will most likely do) then you will have to check whether the fitting price is including repairing any damaged plaster etc
Best bet is to talk to the company you are having it done with
Mine was an all in price ,new hatchway frame and making goodHave a nice day0 -

they say it's £40 for a new hatch door so i assume they'll just fit it to the current frame.0 -
You need to find a ladder then that will fit your existing hatch. Best to get a carpenter round to check out what you need and give you a price.
If there is no space behind the hatch for the ladder to push back, then fit one of these telescopic ones as it needs no more space than the hatch.

I had one fitted recently and it's a really good sturdy ladder

I bought a ladder from B&Q. I fitted this ladder myself and it was easy to do. The ladder is very light and flimsy. OK for occasional use but get something better if you intend using it often.
It fitted to the existing frame and is not attached to the door. http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=10597533&fh_view_size=10&fh_location=%2f%2fcatal!!!1%2fen_GB&fh_search=loft+ladder&fh_eds=%c3%9f&fh_refview=search&ts=1291551298069&isSearch=true
