Need some advice - TV picture turning pink!

A while ago I bought a second hand wide screen TV, thought I had a great bargain as it cost £50 and I saw it working fine before I got paid for it. But it turns out that the picture turns pink, mostly a few minutes after you turn it on. But it wasn't too bad as I discovered that switching it to stand by for a couple of secs then back on would make it normal again. But now it pretty much stays pink no matter what I do, also sometimes the picture gets very pale, like the brightness turned up full but its not!
I'm living on sickness benefits, so I really don't have much money. My problem is do I have it repaired, or buy a new one? I have no idea how much it will cost to fix, and I'm sure having someone come look at it will cost even if I don't decide to have it repaired. It's just an old style tv, not flat screen or anything, just widescreen.

Has anyone had this problem of the pink with their tv before? Does anyone have any idea of how expensive it would be to fix?

I Would be very grateful of any advice or comments, thanks.

not an expert in these things but sounds as though one of the "coulour guns" ( there are three reg, green and blue ) has gone faulty.

I have a similar problem with my toshiba WS tv, i beleive it is the red that is faulty.

i was told, time for a new tv, uneconomical to repair

i can only comment regarding my tv which seems to be a similar problem so please get some further advise

It's a Bush. I think this is the model number, but not sure (lots of numbers on the back) WS6671SIL. I have no idea of it's age.

Do you have it connected to anything else via a scart lead (dvd player, vcr etc?)

This happened to the kids Dad and it turned out to be a cheap scart lead. He changed the scart for a decent one and the pic was back to normal.

We used to get this sometimes with old (usually quite large) PC CRT monitors. The 'cure' was to thump the monitor quite hard on the top surface with the flat of your hand. It usually made it work properly again for days or weeks. Sort of "kill or cure" engineer's trick.

Don't try it unless you don't mind putting it in the bin afterwards. It may cure the problem temporarily, it may not...

If you paid only £50 get yourself another one i would charge you £50 to knock on your door, most likely it will be dry joint but these cheap bush/alba do suffer from faulty tubes. Cut your losses and wait for the new year sales
