If not what is your source for saying they're rubbish?0 -

I will assume he is going off the fact that it has been proven that CD/DVD optical media is not the indestructable media it was once sold as, even original silver CD's have rotted as will CDr and DVDr some of my older CDs have gone. I did get a cd writer first back in 1996 when they were single speed taking over an hour to write a disk and the cds were costing a few £'s each for sony disks. even decent disks die you just need to look after them keep them out of the light ect and they will last.0 -

I can only agree with little john. Its happening to me, even with disks written just over 2 years ago. be careful what you store on disks and where/how you store them.
But these disks do look tempting and maybe worth the price just for first time DL writing (testing the waters so to speak)MSE:-)MoneySpendingExpert (-:0 -
Ricoh discs are generally pretty good. Not as good as TY though. It a pity Verbatim's quality has slipped a bit.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

Certainly with Nero 6 it is known that the verify is a bit iffy and known to give false fail errors. Doing a PI/PO quality scan gives a better indication on burn quality.
There's a healthy NEC user forum at www.cdfreaks.com I would recommend that you download a modified firmware by Liggy and Dee from the forums. They tinker with the firmwares to improve the burn speeds and quality. You can get details on quality scans there too.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

For the most reliable disks, look for verbatims. For a good compromise of great reliable DVD+R DL, at a good price, look at Traxdata. SVP sell them for about £1.15 each.
What do you backup this statement up with? I have used these discs burned at 8x on both Hitachi and Samsung drives on the Xbox 360 - which to be honest is what most people are using them for atm - sure Traxdata and Verbatim are a better quality - but of course a lot more expensive. You will find NEO is a big up and comer in this area and will always match or beat the likes of SVP.All queries regarding recent unauthorised CC transactions should be forwaded to peter.jackson@shopneo.co.uk0 -

Thanks to all the people who posted about media quality checks on CDfreaks and the manufacturers of dyes (not brands). Hasnath seems to have things fixed, read the warnings and follow the instructions from the drive manufacturer as as new firmware updates may fail, and you should take care wit this.
Also if you have an OEM drive, e.g one that came with your Dell, or HP etc never reflash except with a Dell or HP Toshiba firmware as the drive even if you think you know the make and model, may be an OEM version with different specs. I've seen lots of people junk their drives this way!
Also make sure you have the latest version of the CD buring software you use as the updates add support for newer drives and firmware and new features like dual layer.
Can anyone confirm if these disks will work with an Xbox360 from March this year, samsung or tosh drive with modded firmware.Seth.0 -
Lots of dual layer bargains but I don't go away from my Verbs.
Just under £2.00 per disk but I know they won't need to be copied over to another blank in a few years time etc
