im posting on behalf of my sister - she had laser eye surgery a few months ago ago and from the start her vision has been constantly blurred and her eyes really really sore to the point that it looks like she is constantly been crying they are that red and swollen
she can no longer drive her car cause of the bluriness and has she is finding her job difficult to do because of the strain on her eyes and the constant blur
the laser place has offered to do more surgery but my sister has refused this as prior to the surgery apart from being sort sighted her eyes were fine
she has been told that as she is finding her job difficult to do she should claim esa but she is self employed so not sure if she is able to do this and she has never claimed anything before
if dose she need to do claim, how long can the process take for a self employed person -
she is a patient of eye hospital at the moment where they giving her some sort of medicated eyes drops but it dosnt seem to be working
it was actually the doctor at the eye hospital who said she should not be working at the moment untill this clears up but my sister wanted to keep on working
thanks in advance

So is it going to get better on it's own?
Surely getting the surgery to repair it would be a much better option?
Is she planning on winding up her business if she is planning to claim sickness benefits?0 -
thanks for the quick reply -
i have no idea if it will get better on its own its supposed to be hazy for a few days and gradully clear up but hers hasnt its gotton worse
she dosnt want to go back to the laser eye clinic and have more surgery with them as she has lost all confidence in them, her eyesight was fine before this apart from being short sighted didnt have any eyesight problem before
myself and my parents think that her only option would be to wind up her business in the short term untill her eyesight get better she is hoping it will just be short term maybe a few more months but dosnt know
is that possible to do that if your self employed wind up your business for a short period or is it for good - how dose she do this if this is what she has to do - who will she need to contact
sorry for all the questions but she my little sis and have always felt the need to help her out
she lives with our parents so minimal outgoings and she has some savings ect and i dont think any real debts she hasnt ever claimed anything before so totally unsure of what to do if she needs to
she may be able to have surgery with the eye hospital if they reccomend it and if she is suitable but no idea how long this can take could be months
her eyes have been like this from day one at first she thought it would get better after a few days but its gradully gotton worse and it been around 10 weeks now since the operation
she feels totally stupid and upset as its kind of self inflicted , it wasnt neccessary to have it done but she hated wearing contacts and glasses and was very very short sighted, so she though that surgery was a good option
she had 3 consultations with 3 different places , so didnt rush it
but her vision getting worse and the doctors at the hospital has just said to keep taking the drops - she has 4 different types of drops to take every day several times a dayLoopy_Girl wrote: »So is it going to get better on it's own?

Surely she could wait a few months then and see if there is any improvement and live off her savings before making rash decisions about winding up her business and claiming benefits?
Am assuming the eye hosp are not going to leave her like this forever and a day.
If she has a good client base for whatever she does then she will find it extremely tough to get back in the market and get the business back up and running.
If she has no faith in the clinic (which to be honest is misplaced as these operations are not 100% and these things do happen), has she asked them if they would consider meeting the cost of her going to a private eye surgeon?0 -
I thought you got one eye done at a time to see if it was ok before getting the other one done? i would get a second opinion from another eye specialist.0

My husband had cararact surgery this year.
Minimum 6 weeks between the 2 ops and then only if there have been no problems with the 1st one.0 -
Sounds like this is a private clinic job, and NHS are picking up the pieces. Is that right Charlearose? This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

Laser eye is different. It's cosmetic, not a surgical requirement so they have them shifted in and out like cattle.
Both eyes get done as several folk at my work have had it but even if I won the lottery I would never do it.
Aside from the squeamish feeling wih someone faffing with my eyes - brrr - it's not 100% as this thread proves and I can think of nothing worse than losing my sight.
I pretty bad anyway and wear glasses 24/7 but why muck about with something so so precious0 -
