Tickets missing in post - am I responsible?

A few weeks ago I sold some tickets to a gig I could no longer attend.

I sent the tickets by Recorded Delivery, however after a few days the buyer contacted me to say they hadn't arrived.

It then transpired that he had given me his old address by mistake, which was a University Hall.

He went to see if they had the item there, which they hadn't and having tracked it on the RM website it says the information is 'not yet available'.

As I sent them Recorded Delivery I have proof of posting and a tracking number, and as I was given the wrong address anyway, surely I am not in the wrong?

Yet he is demanding I give a refund, should I?

    So he says.
He gave wrong address, that's his problem, next time he won't.

    Don't refund.
    .
  • No i dont think you should, you have sent it recorded to an address he gave you, you have done your bit.
Surely as soon as it leaves you it is no longer your responsibility as long as you have sent it securely. give him the RM tracking no and leave it with him.

Do not refund, he might have them for all you know. And be using this university thing to make you think otherwise.
  • How can someone give there old address by mistake!!!!!???

Wonder if you can cancel the tickets to the gig with the vendor, so they are invalid if he tried to use them (or tell him you are going to do this, i bet they will miraculously appear again).

Trouble is that tracking information. This is assuming he paid by paypal. If there there is no proof that the item was delivered to the delivery address, and the buyer puts in a claim for 'not delivered' surely paypal would side with the buyer and give a refund?

    I'm With Peter999 On This.
He Gave You The Wrong Address, give Him The Info So He Can Trace The Letter, Then You Have Given Him The Proof That You Posted The Tickets.

Im 99% certain Paypal would give him his money back if he put in a chargeback as you could not prove delivery to the address. Even if you sent them emails showing he gave you the wrong address if Royal Mail's website doesnt show it as delivered then Im afraid you will loose.

If they have not been delivered then they should get returned to you as the sender by Royal Mail in due course. Would there still be time to get them to him if that happens?
  • Did you deliver it to the address that was on the Paypal payment information?

Have you called Royal Mail and asked them if it was delivered? (sometimes it never shows on the website)

It has been sent by trackable means to hopefully the PayPal address on his account. I'm afraid it is tough luck on the buyer and hardly the Royal Mail's fault.

Buyer will need to sort it out. Definitely no refund.

Has it been sent to the Paypal address or to an other address given by the buyer?
  • The delivery information should be displayed by now, i was under the impression it takes about a week for recorded to appear online. Sounds like it could have gone missing and you can claim from them.
