I'm planning to go with my sister to Andalucia next May, we've been several times previously staying in a house in a mountain village owned by one of my friends but this time we'd rather stay somewhere with a bit more happening. Malaga is favourite but Nerja, Sevilla, Jerez or Cadiz are possibles too. We don't want to go any of the really touristy places like Marbella or (heaven forbid!) Torremolinos. We'd prefer a place with two bedrooms although one and a sofa bed would do at a pinch. Obviously I don't want to pay over the odds, I wouldn't be asking on MSE otherwise . Can anyone recommend any web sites to look at?

There are some nice caves in Nerja, but it's a day trip kind of place, imho.
We stayed in a residential area in Rincon de la Victoria we needed to use the car to go everywhere because it was a couple of miles up a hill with no shops.;)
I'd go back to Torre del Mar for a holiday - it's a wee bit along the coast between Malaga and Nerja, nice place, laid back, nice promenade, has a few english speaking bars but not too many cafes offering egg and chips with a pint of lager for breakfast, iyswim.:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Have you ever stayed in (heaven forbid) Torremolinos?0

Lucky you! Thanks for the recommendation, it looks good and not too steep (assuming the prices haven't changed from the 2009 ones on the web site.0

Yes, I know Competa, the house I've stayed in several times previously is in Canillas de Aceituno which is a similar village. But as I said this time I'd like to stay somewhere that has a bit more to offer without needing to drive.0
