Council/Housing Benefits for Non Dependents Help

  • Hi Folks,

Can I jump in here, and ask a similar question.

My HB has just been reassessed to take account of my adult son, now being 20, and no longer in education, as of mid October.

My weekly deduction is £17, but this seems more than I was expecting.

I work 16 hours, nmw. I receive CA, CTC / WTC , CB for 1 child aged 11-15. This child also receives DLA MRC / LRM.

My son, now classed as a non dependant receives DLA HRC LRM, paid to me as I still manage his finances. That's all.
I've said I will support him until the new year, when hopefully we can find some sort of training scheme. I'm just trying to avoid him going into the benefits system for ESA or JSA.

The HB award letter has assessed my sons income as £120 to 177.99, but I have no idea how they arrive at this figure!

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Regards
    Munchie

It still doesn't matter that you have gone back and edited your post it's still bad information.

EMA will close to new applicants in England from January 2011

Carers allowance is also used as income.
However I'm getting a hint as to your other alter ego's ;)

i only have one login. but maybe i sound like other people as other people have similar opinions. it might suggest to double check reading what you read if your opinion apposes more then one person's opinion.

my post said.. if your son CONTINUED in education. where would a NEW EMA application be involved?????

and as for carers allowance. yes this is classed as income. but unless he is receiving hundreds and hundreds of pounds the income amount is minimal which should not affect HB.

in my opinion CA isnt £1000 a fortnight is it? (exaduration to make a point)

    The lowest reduction should apply.

If you have carers allowance for the eldest son ignore some of this below as I have assumed you have it for the youngest child?

You should now claim carers alllowance for the eldest child with him claiming it for his younger brother, that will allow him income support at £90 weekly on top of the carers allowance at £53 and you will then have no deduction from your HB either.

But if you / he can afford to do without this or you wish him to stay out of the benefit system then thats fine, he will become part of the £14 billion £'s underclaimed each year in benefits.
