moving electricity/gas meter

I want to move my electricity meter from outside my house to inside. It seems that its going to cost me a stupid amount to move it from one side of a wall to the other.. I'm just wondering if any body knows any further info on the matter or has had any experience with moving theirs...........

Hi Kh.,........it was going to cost several hundred to do the reverse, i.e., from inside to the outside, to make it easier for meter reader.
When I got the quote, gave up the idea.

No one else can do it only the local distribution company and they charge loads to do the job...

Thanks very much for the replies... Doesn't seem to be worth the cost.. I think my costing is around five to six hundred pounds!!!!!!
Seems wrong as the meter only needs to be moved from one side of a wall to another. You can actually see the wiring on the inside but the meter is on the outside (at the back of my house ,on a neighbours doorstep)...
But anyway thanks again for the advice.

My sister had it done last year, even tho the family did a lot themselves, still cost hundreds. Everyone, but everyone wanted paying.One of those jobs that involve health and safety, can't do it yourself, they know, you pay.
