Travel Insurance USA

Hi,
I am going to the Southwest of the US, leaving on the 20.4 and returning on the 4.5 in London. I wonder if somebody could suggest me a reasonably good and cheap travelinsurance. STA Travel are offering on for £60 and I thought that was rather expensive. I am 29 years old, in good health condition and I have not planned to do any weird sports activities. The only thing I do will be driving a car around
.
Many thanks for your suggestions

The USA is an expensive country for travel insurance compared to anywhere in the EU.
The reason being is that medical costs are outrageous in the US.0 -
use one of the tools here or similar sites to compare.
We paid £62.99 for a couple for an annual policy including the US with decent levels of cover from travel-insurance-web.com.
We've never had to claim, so can't say how they are in that respect.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
I paid 51 for an annual travel insurance including the US and it gives me insurance upto 31 days at a time, used Aviva and got £15 cashback at the time, Sept 2010.0

I've used insure and go for a trip to Bosnia recently...will definiely look into usin them when I go to the states as cover appeared to be reasonably comprehensive and wasn't extortionate.
One thing I will say, check your insurance policy very carefully. I was out in the States earlier this year and was using insurance via my university, but it was rubbish when I had to claim. They told me I had to pay costs upfront and they'd reimburse me, which took a very long time. Apparently it's not the norm (according to the lovely american pharmacist I dealt with (I was stuck out there due to ash cloud and so had to get a new prescription for meds)), but it was a hassle...so I'd check that they will pay out directly if you need them, rather than expecting you to foot the bill and then reinbursing you at a later date.0 -

Being in good health still does not stop you from being hit by a car, or involved in an accident. As has been mentioned above, it is IMPERATIVE you get adequate travel insurance for this trip, otherwise it could work out very very expensive. Please do not scrimp & scrape on cover, just to get the best price, but make sure you get a policy that suits your needs. We hear so many stories these days of non or inadequately insured people.
But that aside, have a great trip.

Thanks for all your comments. I am seriously trying to get this booked now, and I just came around the following
AA Travel insurance
For 17 days USA it costs £35, I guess this is a fair price. It includes:
Emergency Medical Expenses and other expenses: 10£ Mio
Personal Liability: 2£ Mio
Holiday Abandonment: £5000
and some other stuff like passport loss, personal death, etc.
Looks pretty good to me, what I can't find out is whether I have to pay first before I can claim the money back. Anyone have experience with them and can recommend them?
many thanks!

are you planning no other holidays for the rest of the 12 month period? An annual policy may be a better option.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
