replacing fascia boards

One of the fascia boards on the front edge of the apex of my roof has started to rot away at the bottom (on the overhang) My question is, how easy is it to replace this? And also how is it done?

It is currently made of wood as is all the rest of the fascias on the house so would prefer to replace it in wood although don't mind doing it in upvc it it is clearly better to do so

I am reasonable proficient at diy having modernised my house including installing the kitchen myself so am happy to do this myself but not really too sure about pulling the old fascia off, getting the replacement as the bottom has a sort of swoosh to it and attaching the new one

Any help would be appreciated

(Reading the above back I realise I have probably not explained myself too well so any questions/clarification pls ask)

Thanks for any help

  • It should just be nailed on and can be prised off with a suitable nail bar and hammer.You can then use the old one as a pattern for the new piece which you can simply nail back in the same way as the old one.
  • Hi,

    Always be careful when replacing fascia or soffits the fascia on your gable may come off easily, but it all depends on the roof tiles do your roof tiles overhang your fascia?

    If so they may need repointing afterwards as the mortar might crack.

    Fitting::

    Try to keep your old ones intact when removing them and lay them next to your new ones and mark and add a few extra inches on and cut.

    Then offer it up to the gable and mark as needed and cut to your required length.

    Nail using nails called poly tops which are nails with white caps.

    That should be all you need to know.

  • Of course,polytops are no good for timber,which i think is what the poster is using.2 1/2 inch (65mm) lostheads are what you need for timber.
