Dog Food

One of my dogs is now on very expensive dry food which is controlling her colitis, but being an Irish setter she is quite fussy and will not eat it on it's own, so I need any ideas for cheap additives which I can take when camping for a fortnight or so. At home she gets the pickings left after boiling up chicken carcasses for soup but I cannot do this when away from home, so am a bit stuck for ideas.
Have been reading this forum for ages now but this is my first post.
Have you guys to thank for discovering star drops :T

  • Hi - I have a scottie who also suffers with colitis and I had him on the dry food for ages, but he developed really bad dermatitis and so the vet said to switch him to wet food, so now he has pedigree pouches and is thriving on them with no colitis flare ups. If you are going away you could perhaps moisten the food with a bit of canned or pouch moist food, or do you not want to risk it with the colitis? I know when Angus was bad with his colitis the slightest thing set him off.

Take along long-life yohurt with healthy bacteria. Our cocker loves it.

Have you tried popping it into the mircowave for 10 seconds before giving it to her, apparently zapping it releases the meaty smells and makes it much more appealing.
My Doctor told me that "1 out of 3 people who start smoking will eventually die." The other two apparently became immortal.

  • That's an interesting thought will try that tonight
  • My mums dog lovely Cleo had to have dry food which she hated. We made up about a mug full of gravy just using an oxo cube and poured that over it - she loves it!
