Our dog started doing this at 7 months and it turned out she was having a phantom pregnancy. Apparently it is common in dogs and my friends dog did the same. She had gone from being left alone to crying a lot. I was walking back from school and I thought 'what on earth is that noise' and she was howling, she also started getting upstairs and pushing the duvet into a 'nest' she could snuggle into. I had never heard her bark let alone howl. It lasted about a month and then she started carrying a few things around in her mouth and a week later she was back to normal. She got very clingy and wanted to be near me all the time during that time.

Well I don't think it's that...she's not remotely maternal. However, last night she slept REALLY well. She did wake up and have a bark (no door attacking) at about the time we normally get up during the week. I went down to let her out and she had the worlds biggest pee and then a little poo. So I'm fine with her barking for that.

She just went back to bed after that. I'm under no illusion it's over - I think her stay at the kennels just over stimulated her and she was pooped. So I shall see what happens tonight. Fingers crossed it would be awesome if we had our night time routine back.

Our border collie ellie developed seperation anxiety overnight at about 6 months. She started pooping and peeing every night as well as chewing the walls and door, even if we tried shutting her in the kitchen with the door shut while we were in the room next door so she knew we were there.

We thought about a phantom pregnancy and got her checked out by the vet but it wasn't.

It lasted about 2 months and DH was at the end of his tether as it was him coming down to it every morning. We tried everything from using zoflora, keeping her in the kitchen we must have tried so many different things. Honestly we were thinking we had made the biggest mistake of our lives getting a dog as we had never come accross such problems growing up with dogs.

We are still not sure why it stopped about 4 weeks ago, whether she grew out of it (she's now 9 months), or eventually responded to the praise of the no pee and poo days (As an aside even my 3 yo will come down in the morning and announce that Ellie has been a good girl as there's no pee and poo mummy).

Two other things coincided with it stopping....We had had mice and we managed to catch three which appears to have been all of them. Then about 3 weeks ago she came into season, since which she has been a lot more calm and chilled out.

She's been absolutely fine. It lasted 2 - 3 weeks and then stopped. There was seemingly no reason at all. Fingers crossed thats it sorted.
