Hi,
I am about to buy a house that is fifteen years old. There is a system boiler and a cylinder. Is it likely that all will be OK? I am thinking about putting a heating engineer in for peace of mind.
many thanks

No one can really answer that, if you're concerned then best ensure a service is done before exchange.
We recently had a new boiler. We changed from a conventional boiler to a system boiler with separate cylinder because we wanted to ensure we could have 2 showers simultaneously. Also an extra bonus that there is no need to waste space on an airing cupboard.
Overall I'd much prefer a system boiler and separate cylinder, but as yours is 15 years' old I'd definitely think it worth getting it checked out.0 -
My last boiler lasted 30 odd years though they tend to last less nowadays. Is it the original boiler?
But if in doubt either budget to install a new one or send in an engineer to inspect.0 -

The one in the house I've just rented out was installed in 1984. Its passed every single gas safety check since we bought it in 1996. Never needed a single bit of work to the boiler. Tank needed replacing once as the coil inside went so it was constantly running out of the overflow but the tank had been in there over 20 years and not lagged so ended up being an ideal opportunity for an upgrade.0 -
Sometimes a system boiler and a separate hot water tank are better then a combi boiler as you can still heat the hot water off an immersion heater when the boiler fails.0
