Do they tell you what the suspect is actually in for , You could be stood next to a crazy man

You never get told what they are in for or any other information. They usually come in with their legal representative, then get rid of the people that don't look similar and sit down. I was however quite worried when a suspect was led in handcuffed with a police officer either side and the officers stayed in the room just out of view of the two way mirror, that was unusual!

On another occasion the suspect got in the line up and told everyone he did do it just in case we were wondering, no one asked him what he had done though.
  • I used to do this alot, made £100 one week for about 2 hours work.

Unfortunantly in Wales now they put the photos on CD and thengo through the CD with the person looking at the parade...

I think you can get £5 for your details to get put on the database.. but this was done like 4 years ago now.

I've done these ID parades before. Different stations pay different amounts ranging from £5 in Manchester to £15 in Hull.

I got picked out once but it doesn't matter if you aren't the suspect, nothing happens. :)
  • Is there anyway to check on the internet where your nearest id parade station is?

if you do get picked out, what would it matter? your innocent! lol

being picked means one of 2 things ....

the police have the wrong man/woman
the witness did not see as much as they claimed.
  • I have done a few parades in the past and on one occassion I was picked out! For anyone worried about that aspect don't concern yourself - the police just conclude that the witness is unreliable. I have always thought that many victims get cold feet about the whole thing and deliberately pick the wrong person as a way of killing the process. Anyway, I don't do it anymore, but it is an easy, if irregular, way of making some pin money. It does help if you are male, under 25 and look like a thug as you have more chance of being asked to attend one. If you are interested then have a go - you needn't do it again if you don't like it.
  • I used to do loads they are an easy way to make money. I've been picked out a couple of times but it's no problem.
Unfortunately our force now uses electronic ID parades.

Yes we used to get to find out what they where accussed of, you could here the police officer say to the witness "can you identify the person that ....."
One time we had to keep our hands behind our backs as the suspect had to be kept handcuffed
You can't have everything....where would you put it?

Any hope of them taking on a 14yo girl who looks about 12 and rather unlikely to be a criminal?

The accussed suddenly identified himself to us all when he started screaming out "none of these guys look anything like me- Im bound to get picked out!!"
He had a point as he was 10 years older than everyone else and a lot of the people in the line up weren't even the same colour as him!
