Santander: Provided you earn over £14,700
New Preferred In-credit Rate account customers get a £100 sign-up bonus and 5% in-credit interest on the first £2,500 for the first year (when it drops to 1%), if you pay in £1,000/month.
To get these perks, you must apply online and use its 'Account Transfer Service' to move across direct debits and standing orders, and pay in your salary of at least £14,700. You should get the bonus within three months of grabbing it. You can still bank via branch or phone as well as online

Hi,
I don't earn a salary and was wondering if I could pay £1000/mth into the account via standing order from an external bank, to qualify for the £100 bonus. Santander CS aren't sure.

This just about sums it up. It will not be worth the hassle to deal with these people for the sake of £100 and/or 5%.

There's no mention of salary/income.

The only type of credit that doesn't count are internal Santander to Santander credits. It MUSt be a credit from an external source. This is to stop people 'swapping' the money around internally.

Otherwise, how you credit that £1,000 is generally up to you.

I can confirm I signed up for a Santander current account using the switching service which transfered 1 DD and 1 SO and I got a £100 'incentive' 9 weeks after applying and deposited just over £1000 total by BACS in one month.

Can you close the account after you get the cash bonus. Or do you have to keep it operating for a year?
