ex forces injured in active service

ok my grumble is that atos health care are the most unprofesional people i have ever dealt with !

i was injured in active service in the armed forces can barely walk aswell as other problems but have been deemed by atos to be fit for work, there doctors are either in it for the money or have specific company polocy to adhere to rather than giving an honest opinion.
it all seems ludicrous i would be a hell of alot better off if i was working im not asking for hand outs or to be a sponge but those claiming unfairly have messed it for the genuine people who do need help.

what can you do ??

I can barely walk many days and most of the time can only lift a few kilograms. I work.

They're not saying you can do all kinds of work, merely that there is work you can do albeit it restricted in type and hours. You may need to do training or retraining but you are able to take up paid employment - for example, an administration position however you'd not be expected to work in a warehouse loading wagons.

The problem is there's many people who have something wrong with them, such as a missing leg, but are otherwise perfectly capable of doing some kind of work. The idea of these medicals is to force those who seem to think that such a disability exempts them back into work they can do instead of melingering on benefits at our expense.

In response to the OP's perception of ATOS a recent review reached the following conclusion:

"One thing is clear, however, from the complaints about the Atos assessment, from people who have given evidence to this review – including organisations such as Citizens Advice and Citizens Advice Scotland who have collated a lot of data – that is, that the complaints are consistent across a wide range of organisations, agencies and individuals. This must be taken seriously and the review seeks to address these problems and suggest how things can be improved in its recommendations."

  • The americans treated their vietnam vets appallingly because they lost that war, seems we are in danger of repeating the mistake,OP have you sought help from the Royal British Legion or the SSAFA both of whom should be able to give advice on benefits.
You deserve to be treated better, make sure you are.

can you not claim off the army, war pension payments.

i know someone who was in army, was injured, and has problems etc.

he claimed this and got 60 per cent award per month of 980 quid which is not deductable by anything, housing benefit, tax credits or even dla.

something you need think about, speak to british legion about it, they can help with everything for you, even to do the appeal or even to fill a new claim in etc.

speak to them or even ssafa

ssafa has helped me over this last year and dont know where i would be with out them

What utter tosh. The vietnam vets were left to fester in run down derelict VA hospitals with very little care - see "Born on the Fourth of July". We have nothing like that. The medical and after support services available to forces personnel is far far better than when I was discharged 19 years ago.

Nowadays many disabled personnel aren't discharged but moved to admin duty. Back in my day, you got asked where you wanted the travel warrant made out to, you were de-kitted and then you phoned a taxi to give you a lift to the local station.
