iPod virgin

Options
I have just bought an iPod Shuffle for my daughter, and having never owned or used one, I would like to know from those who know, what can be done and how to upload songs onto it, whether we have to buy song from the iTune store, or if we can upload song from the CD's we already own, or MP3 files we already have.
Your help and expertise would make my little girl's birthday a lot more enjoyable.

Just upload your Cd's via iTunes then copy the songs to the iPod its as simple as that
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!

Sorry, but how do I upload via iTunes?
    Does she need an account?
I am sure it is simple, once one knows how, things make sense.

To get CDs onto the iPod - install iTunes on PC, open (run) iTunes, insert CD into drive on same computer, import CD to iTunes library. This will take space on the hard disk of the computer, as you're making a copy of the CD in the iTunes library.

If you have mp3s elsewhere on the PC or on an attached drive or network drive - with iTunes open (running), go to the File menu and select 'Add folder to library', then select the folder containing your mp3s. It helps to have the mp3s 'tagged' with Artist, Album, Song Name, etc as this will give more order when they're added to the iTunes library. This links the mp3 to the iTunes library but doesn't make a copy of the mp3 so you don't use up more space on the hard drive.

You don't HAVE to buy anything from the iTunes store, but that option is available to you if you want it.

    Does this help?

There's many, many guides out there on the interweb.

Can I suggest you google terms like -

    "itunes 101"
    "itunes getting started"
    "beginner itunes"

or variations - these will keep you busy for hours with lots of info....

here are some video how to's http://www.apple.com/uk/itunes/how-to/

download itunes at this link (if you dont have it already): http://www.apple.com/uk/itunes/download/

there is no need to have an apple itunes account at all, and it is very likely cheaper to buy the CD and 'rip' (add) it to itunes rather than buy it direct from the itunes store

I was wondering if iTunes would be any use for someone without an iPod?
ITunes is a platform that every podcast provider uses, and would I be able to subscribe to podcasts through iTunes, and then transfer them onto my Nokia 6300 phone.

yep I used to use it before I got an ipod, and still use it for my phone mp3 player, you can easily drag and drop music and podcasts from inside itunes to the 'mass storage' window of your phone/mp3 player.

only thing that may be a problem is if the podcast is an enhanced podcast (uses pictures during the podcast to tell you stuff) it might not work, but most content people who make enhanced podcasts also make a standard version which is just one big audio file.

plus I like the interface of itunes esp the coverflow with all my album covers.

Yes, either as a Podcast store, or as a PC-based jukebox for your music.

I have just downloaded itunes for my little girl, as she got an ipod for her birthday.
I have to say that itunes looks pretty much like Windows Media Player.
If she wants the Album Artwork, she required an account with istore. What information will she need to provide?

I think you have to provide name, DOB, address, email and payment information. However, I believe there is a 'None' option for people who use iTunes Vouchers.
    Target Save £1k :o
    So far £625/£1000 :j
