Hi I've only read your first post. I have the Jane from a few years ago (was lucky got it from ebay) it is fantastic and now that it is rear facing too it is definately the pram i would have.
I've had 1 'stroller' which i've hated from the moment of buying but basically needed for holiday.
I've had a big silver cross with class chasis (still have and is fab just it's quite heavy)
I've had a small 3 wheeler which was good but a little low for the handles and my height.
Then when i had my son i bought the jane off ebay and it's fantastic, yes big in the boot but it will last, my almost 4 year old can fit in it as well so we can swap round.
    Congratulations and good luck
    charlie

edited to say, you don't actually need to downsize to a stroller. it depends on what you will use the pushchair for. if you're doing lots of walking and going off road a lot then it's probably better to keep a bigger puchchair. If you don't get a pushchair that you are comfortable with then you'll change it quickly no matter what.
I so love the new jane one (so jealous!)

I've got the slightly older Slalom Pro, love it. The frame folds small in the car, weighs almost nothing to carry. Squeak is 3 months old and has loads of room in the carrycot still.

She always looks cosy in it and we've also kept the pram up in the front room and used it instead of a moses basket. It's manouverable and I used a similar buggy with my twins until they were 4 (cheap and cheerful stick buggies break, are too short for me and don't steer well)

I am out and about a lot (4 bus trips every day) and have taken it on the train and still love it.

    Hope that helps :)

Oh and I second the bit about the car seats not being very good, I got the matrix (?) car seat with mine which can lay flat for long journeys or if baby falls asleep when you use it in the frame (not often in my case) which I liked. It is however, massive. Much bigger than the standard type.

I have to second the Mountain Buggy. I bought mine off ebay and have had it for 2 years and still love it. It is the easiest 3 wheeler to push and steer. We took it to the beach last year and it was so easy to push and pull through the sand and just as easy to take it off road. It's very stable as well. And I really load it up if I have to walk to town to do my grocery shopping. The only thing I don't like is there is no latch to keep it folded but you can get a velcro strap to wrap around it and it works just as well. It comes with a generous rain cover and you can get a sunscreen for it that is great for keeping the sun out, makes my girl happy.

Another vote for the Mountain Buggy - it's certainly the best off-roader there is, and the "urban" version (with a free front wheel that can be locked when you're off-roading) is a good compromise if you want manoeuvrability around town.

The Mountain Buggy will lie flat for a newborn, but I'd recommend using a sling as much as poss for the first 6 months, particularly if you're into dog walking etc.

I think that you're making a mistake trying to beat the VAT. The Slalom is the most expensive on your list at £565, and after the VAT rise this will (probably) go up to £577, or maybe even rounded up to £580. Is the £15 really a deal breaker?

Would you be able to get to a Baby Show early next year? I went to the last one and Mothercare had 10% off everything - if you spent £13 on entry but got 10% off £580 then you'd still be £30 better off, and that's before you do the rest of your shopping at the show!

  • We have the mothercare mychoice which we are really pleased with, it comes in a 3 wheel version although we have the 4 wheel. The seat unit goes flat for a pram and then changes to a pushchair unit when needed, which can face front ways or facing you. Car seat can fit onto the wheels as well. Folds up small and the wheels base is light. Only problem for you if going on a train and it needs folding is the seat unit has to come off to fold up. You also need to watch the handel bar as it does touch the front wheels when folded and if not careful you get mud on it!
If taking the seat unit off to fold is an issue there is babystyle oyster which can come in loads of colours and the seat unit doesn't have to come off to fold, think it may only come as a 4 wheel.

I've got a quinney buzz and I love it! Disadvantages are that there is not much storage space for shopping (and you'll need to buy an under chassis basket separately) and it is quite large (the chassis filled the boot of our Yaris but we have since upgraded the car!) I've just bought an "all-terrain" front wheel for use in the snow/ice/off road and it makes handling the buggy look much easier than some of my friends' buggies.

I have a dog and it's easy to control buggy and dog simultaneously - buggy can be pushed one handed where necessary. We used the carrycot as a downstairs moses basket for the first 4 months or so.

If you are considering the quinney do have a look at the cost of the extras before you buy it as they can easily mount up, eg the front wheel I bought cost about £40.
