Quantum Gas Meter Not Working
So I have a prepaid (pay as you go) gas meter. Yesterday my flatmate went to check how much gas was left as it was his turn to put some on. The meter is just not working. No display, nothing happens when we push the buttons or put the card on.
We've still got gas and our landlord is coming here at the weekend (unrelated but he'll be able to sort it out)
My problem is that we have no idea how much gas we have left, and no way of putting any more on! So we are sitting in a freezing house because we need the gas for hot water and the hobs.
What I'm wondering is: If the meter is dead and the valve is open to allow gas in when we use it, maybe the meter isn't registering how much gas we use so we can just stick the heating on without any fear of it running out!
Anyone who has any idea how these things work, any advice would be much appreciated as it is FREEZING!

You Had Better phone youre supplier to get the meter checked , if the valve is open you will still have to pay for the gas as they can still read the dials. its a 4 hour callout for a faulty meter0

If the meter has a visible index then you will probably see that the index still moves and clocks up usage.
It may well be that there is still credit on the meter but that the display is faulty and so when credit runs out,it may click off.
Either way, the mechanism is likely to still clock usage and so you will be billed for it.
You need to phone your supplier. Once they have reported it to the meter owner, there is usually a 4 hour window for attendance.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Getting billed for any usage is not exactly my number one concern.
Anyway, thanks for the replies, but having done a bit of research (it's really hard to find this stuff online!) it seems that you're right that it will click off after whatever we have left has been used.
We couldn't get a callout today which is why I asked.0 -

You have £2 emergency credit:

AFAIK the target standard of service is a 4 hour window for attendance. If they cant make that, then you may be due a fixed compo payment.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). With electric meters at least, it's only 4 hours if you have no supply at all. And that despite the regulation seeming to say it's 4 hours all the time. I checked it out a few weeks ago.C_Mababejive wrote: »AFAIK the target standard of service is a 4 hour window for attendance. If they cant make that, then you may be due a fixed compo payment.0
