Any ideas for packaging materials

Options
I have run out of bubble wrap and bags, have ordered some, but no deliveries here for 10 days. I have burnt all the cardboard to keep warm (we ran out of wood) - people keep ordering stuff and I am trying to pack it up as my husband is off to civilization where the post is working. Any ideas as to what I can package things in! I was thinking of using my old socks (washed!), but people might think that is revolting!!

  • What sort of things are you needing to pack? How about kitchen towel inside clean flora tubs?!

Old screwed up carrier bags make a decent alternative to bubblewrap.

Could your other half pick up some bubblewrap whilst he is in civilisation - self-storage places seem to be reasonably competitive on price (short term anyway) and they seem to be popping up everywhere these days.

(as for the socks - you could possibly get a LOT more for your auctions if you mentioned that!!)

  • If you have a shredder, how about shredded paper?
    ...nothing to see here...
  • They will be too big, I've some mugs I've made, then large ceramic things. I have an idea of putting them in bags and selloptaping screwed up newspaper around them!
  • Gosh lots of replies really quick, thankyou, yes I think I will buy some bubble wrap once in civilization - maybe have the day off today!

Might be worth mailing buyers to warn them there will be a couple of days delay while u get packaging supplies.

Next time, if u burn cardboard, replace it in advance of snow.., we did get plenty of warning lol. U know its going to happen lol.

The only immediate solution I can think of is using old cola bottle bottoms, stuffed with newspaper to protect your ceramics. The bottoms are a bit more rigid, but not much. Then cut up black plastic bin liners and use as wrapping paper if u can.

Best thing you can do is to email your buyers explaining the delay. Whilst recycled material (particularly shreded paper) etc is often used in industry and ebay I think most people would draw the line at old socks.
  • I've emailed my buyers and have some nice messages back. Some say they are just buying but don't ever expect to recieve anything in this weather!!

Now I'm going to see if my socks burn and work on the heating problem.
