Hi all.

I recently used the comparison tool on here and switched supplier from nPower to E-On. Apparently i was going to be saved over £400 a year.

For starters my first direct debit from E-ON is more than my nPower payments. Don't quite understand that. I gave a reading so it is not an estimate.

But more alarmingly nPower have still taken their direct debit also!!!!! Yikes! Now i know i need to contact them. But who has the responsibility? I don't want them to start passing the buck.

Bit worried!

I had a similar experience when I switched to OVO. npower took the (last) DD on the very day the switch happened as this was also the usual day they took it every month.

When I began chasing them, they said they had to wait for the official meter figures from the new supplier before producing the final bill(s) & refunding any money. Even though I had given the readings to the new supplier, they had to send it to npower, not me...

I chased OVO & asked them to confirm the exact date(s) they sent the readings & it was sorted within a coupe of weeks of the switch. The truth was OVO had sent the gas reading within a day or so (I got final gas bill 7 days after switch date), but they must have 'forgotten' to send the elec reading until I chased them.

As to your monthly amounts going up, this again happened to me (by £6), but in my case it was due to me having a surplus with npower which was included in the annual review & hence lowered the monthly amount slightly, & was determined on cost of energy for the full year ahead. With OVO they based the amount on the expected cost for the winter alone, on the understanding that this will reduce significantly in the April review (confirmed by them in writing). The surplus from npower is sitting with me to spend as I choose:)

OK... I'm not quite sure I understand. But are you saying that if I chase them, at some point it'll sort itself out?

If you phone npower they will likely tell you they have not received the readings, and they can only 'escalate' the matter after 20 days since the switch.

If you contact E-on they should be able to confirm the date(s) on which these were sent to npower (or hurry up if they haven't done so).

Once npower have these they have no excuse to delay any refund due.

Which comparison site-several are recommended on the man board? Typically it will be some months after you switch.

    Hi LordLee

I would give us a call and ask how your monthly payments have been calculated.

Our payment arrangements are based on you achieving a zero balance by the time of your annual review in the spring.

I suspect we have estimated what we think you will use by then and spread this over the number of months until the spring review.

As this will probably be less than 12 months by now and we are into the most expensive winter period, your payments may well be higher than if spread over a full year.

This will be rectified after spring when the arrangement will be spread over 12 months.

However, I'm speculating and the best way is to ask for a review of the arrangement. Either phone in or drop an email to the address in my Profile if you prefer. Will be happy to take a look.
