I've been told it's possible to use a cut down phone sim card (use a Dremel) to use allowance from mobile contract. I know the sim card/carrier is smaller on the Ipad, so has anyone done this already and did it work??

Yes but my contract is for mobile broadband anyway. Don't know if you would come up against fair usage terms etc if you use a normal contract SIM.

Thanks, that's what I'm trying to find out.
My son is with T-mobile so has a fair data allowance.

I bought one of the SIM cards on eBay for O2 for the iPhone that comes preloaded with a years free internet. I used it in my iPhone, but also cut it down and now use it in the iPAd and it works fine.

I also bought a (99p) adaptor so that I can put the cut-down SIM back into the iPhone should I wish to.

Many thanks Steve, so the info was correct. If I get the 3g version I was toying with getting a near free redemption contract just for the Ipad.
Just a thought and thanks Guys.

Might be worth double checking if a cut down sim card invalidates any warranty if you use it in an IPad, depends if you think a warranty is important to you.

It wouldn't invalidate the iPad warranty as it is just a SIM card that can be removed at any time.

Certainly the simcard couldn't be sent back to the operator, but they just send out new ones if anything goes wrong ...

I bought a Vodafone Boardband Data sim off EBay and cut it down, it works fine once you've input the APN settings.
