Not in the same domestic league as some of the above, but in the interests of saving another living soul froma similar fate - I share with you my least MSE moment!
It has to be the point some four years ago - that I decided I just WASN'T going to buy more plastic, or playstation games or general tut for DS's birthday. I decided a nice soothing FISH TANK was what was required.
Now known in this house as "Fish - the present that keeps on costing!" It never occurred to me that it was going to cost so much forever
Water treatment agents, plants, more fish, special algae food for the (now giant) catfish, filter pads, more plants, more fish, more filter pads, a new pump, a new airline, more plants, more fish......more de-clorinator....plus enough background heat generated to heat his small room - fine in the winter, but now needs a fan on all night - all summer.
Fried catfish anyone??? I hear it's very tasty :rotfl:0 -
Rather than just bumping the thread... why not share a disaster of your own?

Damn you squeaky! I'm sure I made an appearance somewhere a few pages back, but since you ask so nicely ...
Er, most recently was the episode where I decided that to economise I would dry ALL of the laundry on the rotary washing line. It was a lovely windy day and I went out to buy extra pegs so that every last item of clothing could get out in the sun, thereby saving me from expensive tumble-drying.
Anyway, I loaded the line up with towels, jeans, bedsheets, undies, you name it. It billowed and flapped in the breeze and I stood back to admire my handiwork, feeling like a proper domestic goddess. Then the unthinkable happened ... OH could hardly contain his mirth when he came out to find out why I was shrieking for him, and saw me (all 5'2" of me) desperately trying to save the washing from trailing in the muddy grass by propping up the pole of the drier which had bent and snapped with the weight!
He had to stand there hanging onto it in the wind while I unpegged it all again, which gave him ample opportunity to mock me, then we had to shell out for a new one, which cost an awful lot more than the tumble drying would have ... lesson learned, he's never let me forget it!0 -
Thanks everyone for making me smile!!
One from me.... I was happily using vinegar to descale the kettle and decided that it would work quicker if it was boiled. Only virtually neat vinegar filled to the full line actually manages to completely boil over - vinegar everywhere!!!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
This Christmas I had the whole family over, my mum and dad, DS and her other half, plus MrTsuki.
I'm happily boiling my swede in a pan on our gas hob when mum shouts "You're on fire!"
I'd left the butter too close to the hob...:o
and the whole thing was a boiling burning buttery mess! I shouted at dad to turn off the hob - "I don't know which knob it is!" So I had to reach over the flames, turn off the hob, move the pan of boiling swede and then throw the wet tea towel I was holding (from drying the parsnips) over the flaming mess.
Lukily the rest went ok!
Mum, though, has been known to put eggs on to boil for dinner and forget them, boil them dry. Ruins the pan but makes excellent eggs apparantly!Tsuki0 -

We used to have gerbils, we let them roam about.
My mum often made us clothes as kids. One day she left dressmaking patterns on the table.
when she came back she found two gerbils dragging swathes of dressmaking pattern back into their nest... turned out to be fantastic bedding for the little devilsOld-styler, crafter and freebie junkie!Frogga's Amazing Weight Loss Campaign: Member no.20 since 2/9/07 -- lost 10lbWedding bells 04/10/08

this thread made me laugh out loud.....
....as for me.
1. OH regularly gets freezer surprise. I can never get it right - he usually ends up with chilli with spaghetti and bolognase with rice
2. Called mum many years ago after just having started uni - she couldn't answer my question for laughing so much...I had just announced that my dinner guests had arrived - what time should I put the large beef joint into roast as I had all the veggies and gravy ready! It was a great vegetarian take on the roast dinner in the endr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
