Facebook - Page or Group?

Hi folks

Firstly a little background:-
With all the snow here over the last few days - it has caused chaos!
I work in a Nursery and the snow has caused a tree to collapse in our Garden, unfortunately it brought down the telephone line so we have no communication with the parents. Staff have been having to phone using their own mobiles.
It has come to the point at the moment of Staff handing out their mobile numbers to parents over the last few days.

My question is this:-
I am hoping to set up a page or group for the nursery and give the details to the parents. I do not want just anyone joining the page as I want to use it for events such as we have had where communication has unfortunately been broken through normal channels.
Which of these options gives the administrator better control of who joins the page/group?
I really want it set up so that if anything like this happens again then parents in the Nursery will be able to be informed easier.

Thanks in advance
P

  • Just set up a normal account for the nursery. Then make it friends only then send out friend invites to the parents. Make the page ONLY visable to friends.

Then again is this really safe? Probably best to set up an email account then send out newsletters.

    That is my other option!!
I have had a look and there are several different nursery pages on Facebook - The problem this time is the phone line is totally down and there is no phone or internet. After speaking to some of the girls I work with they thought it would have been a good idea, also the parents were looking for some sort of text/email service, but with the telephone line out of commission it has been staffs phone bills taking the hit!
  • So even a facebook page would be useless unless you had a smartphone. Its probably a very rare occurance that this will happen again though. Plus its extra admin time adding people then remembering to take them off when their bairn leaves. You could always get a cheap top up mobile in case of emergencies

At school we had a snow chain. Simple as, person at the top rings 2 people, and then the 2 people who have been rung, ring the next 2 people each. And so fourth....

Over the course of 20minutes, everyone has been rung.
