faulty engagment ring

please advise,
my daughters boyfriend bought her an engagement ring from warren james jewellers 3 weeks ago, for £395.( not a lot to some but to them it was}
I t has proven faulty ie, one of the claws has come away.
having gone back to the jewellers, they basically said that she must have caught it on something, and must pay for a repair. But surely something like an engagement ring should withstand daily wear. (ive had mine 32yrs and never had a problem)
We have spoken to consumer rights, but would appreciate any advice.
hopefull

I've had my engagement ring for 5 years, and I've lost 2 diamond from mine after the claws broke on either side. tried to claim on my house insurance, who were not helpful, but said the gold can weaken over time, especially if using household cleaners, etc. not sure how true this is. still haven't got it fixed, as insurance were useless.
I wouldn't expect it after 3 weeks though, I'd still try to fight it with the retailer after such a short period of time.0 -
As the fault appeared within the first six months, it is assumed that the fault was there at the time of sale.
It is not necessary for you to prove that you didn't damage it, it is for the seller to prove that you did.
The seller may have difficulty proving the fault is not inherent.
It really isn't good enough to say "you must've caught it on something".0
