most providers will do a credit check or charge for the meter removal.

Why can't you compare on Moneysupermarket? You can make two comparisons - one for other prepayment tariffs and a second one for other payment methods

I phoned around and asked if I were to change to them would they change the meters. The only one I found that would was British Gas.

British Gas will currently change your meter free if you pass a credit check. I used this information to persuade my provide (nPower) to waive their charge and conditions for removing the meter. That said, I wasn't in arrears, which I think would have affected my chances of success. Are you on a meter because you've been in arrears or because you've moved into a new property?
  • thanks for the replys, we went on a meter so we could manage our money better as before we used to get quartly bills, and the amount they wanted for a dd was more than we was actually using. we dont have any debt on either of the meters.

t0rt0ise - how much did npower want to charge you to remove it?

I believe nPower want £60 per meter to change them. Call them and ask.
