AOL Speed issue

From around the end of October I have been unable to play any video during weekday evenings on AOL.
The speed has been dropping from 4.4M in the morning/afternoon to currently 310kb as I write this.
I have mailed AOL but they want me to phone them on their 0844 number (costly) which will probably just waste my time and money.
I have suggested 'traffic shaping' as the cause of this.
Am I right? Is there anything else I can do (apart from dump AOL!)
Comments please.

Have you tried 0117 329 9102 which is listed as an alternative on the saynoto0870 site?
Before ringing them I would have a verified record of speeds over say a week or two. I would also have a record of line stats http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/linestats.htm
You might not get anywhere with AOL but if you want to take it further you will at least have a record of your problem that anybody in the know could interpret straight away.0 -
Sounds like traffic shaping to me. Or theyve simply got too many people connected to your server at the same time. Both of which theyre not going to do anything about and so id recommend changing provider (Ive never liked AOL personally):idea:0

Been getting worse since CPW took them over. I dumped them after they switched me to the TalkTalk network.
Told me i could not get any speeds faster than 500k, Told them to recheck their equipment its currently connected at
2mb+ and that morning had been connected at 5mb.
Told me the cable i had was the wrong colour. Wireless connection with the same router i have used for the past 3 years.
