well...essentially....we ran out of heating oil yesterday.
we really don't use heating much under normal circumstances, but this hasn't been normal circumstances and its amazing how quickly the house got cold. Ironically the sitting room is warmer than usual with the woodburner going all the time and us huddling in it, but it makes the cooling down house feel colder by comparison,:D I think we might try a different arrangement tonight. Our sofas are lovely antique ones, and little two seater sofas are lovely looking, and great for an evenings snuggling but pretty hard for a whole night's sleep upon!0 -

We have a woodburner connected to a Heat Bank cylinder that supplies both our heating and hot water requirements. We had it installed recently and I'm really pleased with it. We have a large source of free wood from all the renovations we are doing, so our heating bills should be quite low this winter. If funds allow, we intend adding solar water heating into the loop which should supply enough hot water for all summer and a decent percentage in early autumn and late spring.
Have you looked at ground or air sourced heat pumps as an alternative to your oil fired central heating? They compare favourably with oil from what I've read, though as we have mains gas and an efficient condensing boiler the costs dont add up. SHame because our heatbank cylinder also allows connection to a GSHP.0 -

Do you have neighbours with whom you could join up to negotiate a good price for bulk ordered heating oil? (It's what the in-laws do!)0 -

I need a dopester on hand to photo and upload the details.:o:o
Hi Lir and merry christmas all. I've sort of followed the issues, and surprise, you've had with the hidden secret room Lir, but maybe I've missed a post where you've fully decided what to do with it?
If you really wanted to display the plans online (are you serious?), you'd probably get a good result by photographing the document with a digital camera. If you uploaded the image to a host on the net, it would then allow others to view, or better still, to download image and see it at full resolution.. or using Windows Viewer to enlarge areas of interest. Otherwise a scanner to digitalise it but home scanners are usually only good for A4 size and no bigger.
In the run of those posts I found myself agreeing with misskool's post about preferring smaller rooms for easier heating, but we all choose houses for a multiple of different reasons... and a farm house is unlikely to have small rooms. (I'll help with any car questions to best of my ability.)
Doozergirl.. hope you're on road to recovery with your heavy flu. It's unlikely to make you feel any happier, but I woke up this morning feeling fine again after having had four days of light flu. Tried to man through it without any medicines but on the 3rd day resorted to the magic of lemsip. Not as heavy a flu as you've described, but I'm sure you're on your way to burning it off and to health again.0 -

The number of people who drop them in and then try and return them to the library... We charge them full price for it if they don't own up.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Thanks viva! It's certainly one big weight off our mind and will, hopefully, provide him with an interesting new challenge.0 -

No,not decided yet:)

If we could find the camera we might be able to discover if I remember correctly that it was broken.I think it relatively safe to share internal plans...no view from the outside?
