Just a quick one before the school run.....got the results for the two courses I had been doing over the winter and into the spring for OU and I passed both of them!
So so chuffed, thought I had completely messed them up.
Fantastic, Sue!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

With pregnancy, they write time as, say, 12/6 meaning 12 weeks and 6 days pregnant. Actually, though, they start counting before you actually got pregnant, from the date of your last period. So when you are 12 weeks pregnant, you've only actually been pregnant about 10 weeks....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Thanks for all your input. You have confirmed our thoughts on this, but Ill try and clarify a few things.chewmylegoff wrote: »what do you think that the agent will actually do which will result in a higher selling price? .... the land is only going to be of interest to a handful of people i.e. the people whose gardens adjoin the land. so the agent isn't going to be able to generate any more interest in the land than you will - the only thing they will be adding is therefore a bit of sales patter.
We agree, but we've found one serious couple whose land doesn't ajoin, though it's nearby, and they'd view it as an asset they could use now, then flog it off later, as we're doing. There might be others.
if you want to stay removed from the process, you could always funnel contact through whichever solicitor you appoint to do the conveyancing, although this may well not be any cheaper!PasturesNew wrote: »At those prices I'd want him to be riding it, naked, wearing a cowboy hat.John_Pierpoint wrote: »I missed the start of this saga - was it when I was on holiday recently?.
At those prices you are paying to have the land taken away.
If you "click" with an estate agent he can earn this fee by getting you a better price than you could get yourself.
It can help if the principal as well as the agent gets involved - some people don't trust agents (surprise!) nor do they trust principals hiding behind agents, even when there is no skulduggery what so ever.
We have been involved; indeed we've written to all concerned in the past week or so to keep them updated. However, we are friends with some of the people, and they can't all come out of his smiling, so we want it to be a business transaction.
Why are you selling?
We really don't want the land, as it's 100miles away. We've kept stuff on it we couldn't move while we were in rented, like building materials, our plants, a 25' greenhouse etc. Almost all of that has travelled down the M5 to Devon now.
PS Presumably this land does NOT have "hope value"?
Might have ransom value - what are the neighbouring people like?
Agricultural land or garden land or neither?0 -

They write 12+6
12+6/40Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

He's a bit vague about access, but if there's any chance at all of getting planning permission for a dwelling at some time in the future, I would hang on to it. He can always give a lease/license to one of his neighbours to garden it in the meantime, and they'll presumably pay him something for the prvilege.
The access on foot was fine, until the council made the area a residents' only parking zone, but so far the wardens have been OK about us sticking a 3.5tonne van there for loading.
PS. Doozer, my DW thought your original post onthe subject was a classic! (and so did I.:))0 -
Greetings again nice people!
Now somewhere very nice and very warm, sitting outside very late at night with cocktails.

John_Pierpoint wrote: »Hi Nice People,
I am wading through hospital reports about skin cancer.
Most of the acronyms can be found or are self evident.
EG mm or MM means malignant melanoma.
6/52 I think must be a measurement of time and I am guessing the scene could have been something like this:
Doctor 2 Patient: Well how long have you had this weeping ulcer on your nose.
Patient: Well I first noticed at cousin Jane's wedding, so it must have been after Xmas.
Doctor: So that was after LAST Xmas in say January?
Patient: I remember it was raining and cold.
Doctor (sighs) and writes 6/52 meaning "At least 6 weeks ago but less than a year" ??
Don't know about 6/52 but I would guess at 6 weeks. MM could be millimetres though. In melanoma, 6mm is where the size is classed as very concerning. This is why they say if you can see it under a pencil eraser then you should get it looked at, though clearly there are other factors that need to be taken into account on top of that (per my sig).
John, if it is something that concerns you, there's an excellent website that I should recommend at https://www.mpip.org. This is the forum section of the Melanoma Research Foundation. It's an American site but very helpful. One thing I will say though is it can be a bit of a doom and gloom place. Even though melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer, it still has a survival rate of about 80-85%. Most people have it and get over it. As a result a lot of the people on the boards are the unlucky ones in the 15-20% as most people recover and move on in life and don't stay on the forums. It needs to be viewed in that context. Please also feel free to PM me if that's useful.I would think that just means 6 weeks.
mm or MM could just mean the width of the thing!
Viva's your expert.
More person who's walked that path than expert:oPlease stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I think weeks is definitely /52 for most of medicine. You'd only write 6 weeks as 6/40 if it was pregnancy. I've certainly seen doctors write 3/7 to mean 3 days. I think /7 means days, /52 means weeks and /12 means months.
Congratulations to Sue. What are you going to do next, and when does it start?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
