I need a smarter controller for C/H and H/W

My current C/H and H/W is dead simple for a 2-bed terrace -

Drayton LP241 24hr programmer
Non-condensing boiler (with own thermostat)
Pump
one-in/two-out valve
Dial thermostat in the lounge
Tank thermostat
TRV on radiators except on towel rail in loo

It's set for H/W in the morning for shower
Room thermostat is on 20 and the C/H programmer fires morning and evening.

So, what I'd really like is to bring the control electronics into the 21st Century -

5:2 programmable for weekends
Frost protection
Much smarter programming for C/H via multiple temp/time ranges
Radio linked to keep all the gubbins out the lounge

Ideally accessible over t'interweb, but that might be silly costly.

I'm just not seeing a replacement for the Drayton LP241 that provides this and handles C/H and H/W!

  • I think you need an electronic boiler control & a separate thermostat control to achieve it.

  • You could try the Drayton Digiplus 3 as an upgrade to your current Drayton as that has 5/2 programming
  • You just need one of the programmable thermostats that will replace your room stat, dead easy upgrade.

A lot, if not most, of wired in programmable stats only have the switched connections that need wires. The power tio run them comes from battery's, well good ones do any way.

So I've gone for a Digistat +3RF. Quite a leap forward from the simple roomstat I hope!

Eventually decided on fitting like this. The Roomstat was getting a switched live from the LP241 and sending back a call into the valve which energised the pump and boiler. Essentially transferred these to the common/call contacts on the Digistat base unit, then added a non-switched live coming off the mains feed into the wiring centre.

Synced to the remote unit, and set the C/H programme on the LP241 to always 'on', letting the Digistat do it's thing. The H/W side of the LP241 wasn't touched.

    IE

Kept your boiler control & changed your room thermostat by swapping an earth or neutral to feed a permanent live to give you the ability to install wireless.
