Student Loan Advice

I have tried applying for a student loan but have been told that as I'm part time I'm not eligible for a loan. I was advised that I would be able to claim a grant off my LEA. After checking with the LEA it appears I just miss out on the grant as with my partners wages added to mine it just and only just pushes us over the limit.

With the student loan I would have to pay it back, but a grant is free money. Now if I earned slightly less I could have FREE money but I can't have a loan even though I have to pay that back.

Is this right ? It seems stupid to me.

There must be loads of students in this middle ground like myself who are struggling to pay Uni Fees etc. Where is the help for us.
