Cornhill Direct - Advice Please

Options
Received renewal documentation today as current policy ends this month.

On the letter it says 'Owing to a technical error, we have had to re-issue your policy which means you have a new policy number and this is displayed on the enclosed documentation'.

For the last 3 years with Cornhill Direct I've been paying around 45 quid per month now this renewal is 72 quid per month and I believe it's a dirty tactic enforced in using this excuse to re-issue a new policy.

I called them today and the person I spoke to could only say ''That's all we can offer you...''

Has anyone got any advice on this as to what I should do? I want to stay with them but as a matter of principle and to their 'technical error' why should I have to pay more?

if youve still got the original renewal quote they should honour that premium.

did they say why its increased so much when it should be a like for like policy.

Have you had any other quotes ?

This is the renewal quote documentation. Everything is here for a renewed policy. Certificate the lot. Like they do every year. If you want to reject it you've to contact them.

What I'm annoyed at is what the technical error is that has resulted in them having to create a new policy. Is that my fault? No.

I've search for other quotes and they're ridiculous. This 72 quid is cheaper but why should is jump up from 45 on what appears to be their error.

Well, I'm a bit unsure as to what exactly you are asking. Your insurance renewal has gone up from £45 to £72 per month and they have given you a new policy number.

Many insurers have put up their rates during this year - many threads on here setting out reasons why. Remember that insurance is a pool and everyone is affected by any claims that are made by members of that pool - it could simply be that Cornhill have paid lots of losses this year, and coupled with poor investment returns and increased regulatory requirements, means that they have to increase their rates so they are not underwriting at a loss. They may also have decided that they don't really want to write motor business and have put their rates up hoping that people move elsewhere (not saying that this is the case).

I can't see why they have made a "technical error" resulting in a higher premium. It would be a different matter if they had quoted you £45 per month, then given new a new policy no and asked for £72, but they didn't - their renewal quote was £72 per month.

You basically have two choices - continue with Cornhill at £72 per month or see if you can get it cheaper, which it appears you can't.
