Help, What are we entitled to?

Hi i'm just looking for advice on what me and my partner are entitled to, at the minute I am in full time employment and she is part time with our annual earnings before tax been around 34,000.

My Partner is due to give birth at the end of January and due to her struggling to get into work everyday on the bus she is going to take her materninity from Christmas Eve. Obviously she will then be able to claim her Maternity Pay @ 90% for 6 weeks I believe and then this will drop down to the Standard Rate. We also already have another child which we recieve the weekly child benefit for of £20.30 a week.

Is there anything else we will be able to claim once the baby is due and she goes on maternity? We will then be living on my £20,000 before tax and her maternity plus the £20.30 for first child plus £13.40 for second child. Any help much appreciated

Thanks

Chris

  • You will probably get some child tax credits - don't you get them already, for your first child?

I don't think you will be able to get any other benefits, though, as your income is too high.

i think you are entitled to a healthy baby, some giggles, some dirty nappies, and i beleive a bundle of joy.

some single people have to live on £45(hardship payment) a week which is £2340 a year for their food and electric, gas, water rates.

breast feeding is free, or 4 pints of milk is £1.50. with the hand-me down clothes from first child. i think you can survive on £20k a year. plus an extra £13 a week for second child.

concentrate on the fun of being a parent of 2 children and not the benefits.

parenthood should be a blessing not a investment proposal.

normally im a nice guy but i have just become unemployed and have to struggle on £45 now, while others are trying so hard to get soo much, when they truly dont see what they have already.

your gonna be a dad again. think about nappies not pound notes.
by the way asda are doing a offer of free nappies for newborns. get ALL friends relatives neighbours to sign up and receive a pack each and give them to you for christmas

happy christmas, i hope your child grows up strong on natural breast fed milk and with morals to not grab something if its not life/death required.

sorry my morals are so high but even on £45 if they said i could claim 3 benefits of £100 each. i would stick to what i needed and only temperarily claim for a extra benefit if disasterous financial problems arose.

£20k a year is more then enough to live on, with enough for luxuries too. once you realise how to live within your means you will enjoy life better when your wife returns to work and the extra cash rolls in

As she is on mat leave the only other benefit will be child benefit , although every little helps , have you thought about reusables , a big outlay to start but save you a packet.

BF is a good saver and better for the little one , but do whats right for you , Im due at the end of jan as well. Has she got any leave she can take before her mat leave ? or after if she accumulates it , use it wisely and dont forget to claim the bank hols ack , which she is entitled to .

She can look to work form home as well , whilst on leave and bring in a little extra, but remember to register for tax.

Other than that , enjoy the time she has to nest and rest up whilst she can. Good luck with the new bindle .
