How bad is the split? I have repaired vacuum bags before now with duct tape - though it was just a small tear.
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

Sleep on them! My spare duvets are used as mattress toppers.
    Underneath the fitted sheet.

In this weather I have all my spare duvets out, with covers on, stored in the bottom of the wardrobe to use as eiderdowns / extra warmth on the beds. Works a treat - and is always useful as an extra cover if the boys wet their beds (and their duvets).
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • We sleep on ours too ie use them as mattress toppers under the bottom sheet. But ours are the kind (spund0wn) that can be washed - even the kingsize one - in an ordinary washing machine. So as long as we know we are having guests, can easily whip one out and wash it! They ARE expensive (although have only ever bought ours halfprice - most recently in Seym0urs of Darl1ngton sale - and took a while to build up our stock) but no local launderette or dry cleaners so it has been worth it - have washed ours again and again (a LOT when the children were younger which is why I first bought them). We have had our original ones for over ten years now and they still come up beautifully.
    Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)

You're right, they're fantastic bags. I use them for storing knitting yarn and fabric, the winter woolies, out of season curtains and cushions and all sorts of things. Very strong and keeps the dust off.

I have folded mine up and put into a pillow case, makes a nice soft pillow!

The thicker tog ones I roll up in a sheet or fleece and make a "Christmas Cracker" out of them. Secure ends with a nice big ribbon and use as a bolster...............makes a single bed into a day bed:)
