Santander Paid Item Fees - £25!

Morning all,
I have been a customer for 5 years with AL and have never gone over my arranged overdraft before.
I logged into my online account today. I noticed there was a pending charges link, so I clicked on it. To my surprise i saw nearly £150 of pending charges.
I have an arranged overdraft of £750. Unfortuantly I went over this for 3 days (really didn't know!) resulting in a £20.50 unarranged overdraft fee, and x5 £25 paid item fees. The values of the transactions were only £10 each! So for buying a £9.99 pizza I am paying a £25 charge!
I have phones CS and they said they can drop one of the fees, but this still leaves me with £125 of fees to pay out.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation. Any advise on what i can do to not pay such an extortinate amount out?
-thanks,
Lewman

I have a spreadsheet of all my direct debits so once I put in my pay for that month it shows me exactly how much I have left to spend. It helps to keep track of what's left!
Does your bank do text alerts? I'm with Lloyds and if I get to within about £30 of £0 (I have no overdraft) I get a text warning me. I then have until 3pm that day to get funds into my account, if necessary.
You need to learn to keep a better watch on your spending!!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

The only advise available is to not make the same mistake again and learn to control your monitor your finances.
If you did that then you would not incur these charges as you would know how much you have spent and how much you have available.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The user has failed to return after their inaugral post. I don't think they'll be too interested now
