Fraud Payment - Lloyds TSB

Hi there,
I realised on on Tuesday that money had been taken from my account (its was showing £0) even though I had just transfered £100 from my other account. I phoned and they said someone had tried to purchase "something online" but couldn't tell me what but that it had flagged as an unauthorised payment beacuse they had entered some invalid details, not to worry it would show back in my account after midnight that night.. great!
Or not... Its now Thursday and the money is still not in my account and the first woman I spoke to at the bank today said she didnt know what I was talking about that she couldn't see any "un-authorised payments" my account was up to date.
So I called again, this time the woman found the transactions ! but said I have to wait five days for it to show on my statement and that if I'm lucky it would bounce back if not they will it pay out... she really doubted that I would be lucky and they would most definitley pay it out.. even though I phoned Tuesday to report it as fraud they are still going to pay it out..
Can someone help me in how I can go about proving it wasn't me or if indeed it would take five days for me to see it ? surely they should be able to tell me where my money has gone?
Really appricaite any help!

It's not your money that's gone, it's the bank's money. Threaten to go to the police if your account isn't restored immediately. The banks don't like the police. The line they take is that they're the victim, not the customer. So be it. Assuming you haven't been negligent, the bank has no legal right to recover its losses from you just because your account was used in the fraud. Can someone help me in how I can go about proving it wasn't me or if indeed it would take five days for me to see it ? surely they should be able to tell me where my money has gone?"It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -
Well. if 'invalid details' were entered when an attempt to use your account to buy goods or services on-line was made, how can the bank authorise it????"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

What an odd reply, I very much doubt that: a) the police will do anything or b) Lloyds TSB will be in the slightest bit bothered with such a hollow threat.
That said OP, Lloyds TBS have to take your allegations of fraudulent activity seriously and investigate appropriately. Like all banks LTSB will have a Fraud Team who investigate such claims, I suggest you contact PhoneBank (save a bit of money by calling 01733 347 007) and say you wish to raise/ escalate a fraud claim (or at the very least get a definitive answer as to what's going on) - part of which they should be cancelling your card. Stick to your guns, and don't accept vague answers like "it may or may not debit".Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -
Let's get this straight Nadine.
IF fraud does happen - you will get ur money back, provided you have not been careless with your details PIN etc.
They cannot see WHO the money is going out to as yet. If the money is pending, it MAY bounce back into your account. If it does goes out and you don't recognise the transaction they will give you your money back.
Most customers - actually spend their money but can't remember spending the money. When the bank tells a customer, money is pending to leave the account, customers kick off cause the bank can't tell them till bout 3-5 days later who it is going to and customers are too lazy to check or keep their receipts. Or they got a memory like a sieve.
If you are that bothered, cancel the card and get a new one sent out.
Again, remember, if fraud happens and you have not been careless, you will get your money back!0 -
iereboy: Thanks I did cancel the card and no I didn't "forget" about a payment... It was two amounts that had been taken, They had entered my details wrong on a website.... twice, that much they bank could tell me. I have a very strict budget I have to keep to so I know where the hell I've spent my money.
jambosans: Thank you, the fraud dept told me to call back next week.0
