Tesco Broadband - loyalty means nothing :(

I know it is often said on here that you should switch frequently to get the best deals but for almost 5 years I have stayed with Tesco for my broadband paying nearly £18 a month. I phoned up this morning to see if I could have a free wireless router as this was on offer to new customers and was told no. I asked if the fact that I had been a loyal customer for almost 5 years made any difference and was told no again  Oh well that has been the kick up the a*** I needed time to change my ISP :D

Vote with your wallet - works the same in every industry.

My mum and dad went car shopping a year or so ago.

Kia and Hyundai offering 5 and 7 year warrrantys. Ford and Vauxhall were not. They asked for one got told No so bought a Kia.

Guess whose market share almost tripled last year. (It wasnt Ford or Vauxhall)

Vauxhall now have decided to offer 5 year warrantys.

...and neither was it Kia or Hyundai - their market shares increased by 61% and 102%, respectively.

Wow that is rubbish i agree, I am with AOL for Broadband and they always give me a new wireless router even thou i am still using the same one i had when i first signed up 7 years ago lol, I am now with them for my phone line calls etc for £21.98 (i know they are part of TT) but even TT could not do this offer and plus AOL gave me a BIG credit on my account of £150. AOL know how to reward there loyal customers.

What a difference with AOL yet Tesco are quite happy to lose a customer for the sake of a wireless router. What I don't understand is that if I left them and then went back as a new customer I would get one

As martin himself has said many times, loyalty is the worst thing you can give to a company, because they never reward it.

Virgin do exactly the same. They offered new broadband customers a free wi-fi hub and new TV customers a V+ box. But they won't let long-standing, loyal customers have the same.

I actually complained and threatened to leave (not an empty threat as I was so angry with them and the way one of their CS reps spoke to me that I was fully prepared to tell them where to stick all of their services). In the end, they relented and gave me a V+ box and allowed us to change our broadband subscription for a single month so that we could have the wi-fi hub.

It seems that these companies don't give a damn about customers once they've reeled them in.

Well done on getting something in the end but you are so right they really don't give a damn :(

Is that £18/month just for the broadband?!

Look at Plusnet - they charge £6.49/month if you are on a Market 3 exchange.
