Tax overpayment. Can i claim interest?

Tooday i recieved back from the tax office p800 informing me for 2008 -2009 i paid £917 to much. For 2009 - 2010 i paid £ 918 to much.

Can I claim interest for the £917 for 2 years and 1 year for the £918??

Seems only fair as they got it wrong. I don't earn much and this is a life saver for me at the moment.

thanks in advance.

You 'may' be able to claim some interest for any overpayment which was more than 12 months ago.
Though I think it may depend on what the reason for the overpayment was. Cannot at the moment find the details but will have another look in a bit.

There is a list of interest rates for the repayment of Income Tax on the HMRC website here:
    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/interest-repayments.htm#itnic

so presumably you can claim the interest as well. It may actually already be included in the rebate

You can claim for anything but if you actually receive it is another matter:rotfl:

I am sure that HMRC will not even consider interest payments unless it is their fault. Worth asking though as I previously said!
