claim emergency landing kazachstan

hi,

i flew with cathay pacific on 28 nov 2010 from amsterdam to hongkong.
after 5 hours flying the pressure in the cabin drops down and the masks falls down. Everybody worry about surviving, The plane had to make an emergencylanding in kazachstan, where we held for more than 20 hours in a transitarea, without food, drinks or beds.
after that a 2nd plane picked us up en brought us to hongkong.
Normal flight time about 10 hours, this flight time was 34 hours.

What will be a right amount i could claim by cathay pacific in this case ?
Where can i refer too then ?

greetings
roon

  • Aviation news sources would indicate you were put in a hotel.

    From the Aviation Herald:

Do you hold a passport from a country that would make entry into Kazakhstan problematic?

According to Flyertalk they never made it to the hotels because of visa problems, but it sounds like the crew did everything they could in a rather unfamiliar airport.
    Gone ... or have I?

Fair enough - can't imagine there are that many suitable hotel rooms around there anyway!

British citizens actually require a visa for Kazakhstan - that it probably the reason.

Indeed we do - I have one.

The difference is Brits do not require an invitation - I'm wondering if the OP is from a country that does not have this privilege.

Well we've established WHY what happened did so - but the question remains as to what Cathay Pacific's liability, if any, is.

    Pass on that.

Personally, I'm just glad that everyone's OK. CX are a great airline and making emergency landings is never fun - having been through a decompression myself (happened at 12000 feet so no physical harm but you do s**t yourself when the "rubber jungle" comes down!). As dmg24 said, they would have attempted to do everything to help but their hands were tied in this case.
