Is Combined Travel Insurance & Car Hire Excess Cover Available Anywhere?

Hi,
We have a European holiday booked for August 2011 and we'll be hiring a car. I've been looking on the internet for a while now to see whether you can get combined travel insurance and car hire excess cover but haven't found anything yet so I'm presuming it's not the done thing.
So, before I go ahead and buy the two different policies, could I ask please whether anyone knows of any companies which may quote on this? It may not prove to be cheaper but I just wondered whether there is a comparison to be made.
Also, has anyone else ever taken out Car Hire Excess Cover? We'll be hiring a car from Naples so as you might expect we want to have our backs fully covered!
Many thanks
Max

Naples :eek::eek:. keep the doors locked and your foot down till your clear of the city .you know a city has major problems when the army is drafted in to collect the 6 months of household rubbish that has built up in the streets

very wise to take out your own insurance no matter where you are going ( except USA ) . Given that Naples has a very high crime rate i would think it was even more essential .
i always take out a individual car hire excess policy when hiring in Europe .
annual policy
http://www.insurance4carhire.com/index.asp?langID=1&refID=1666&curID=1
or for shorter trips daily policy
http://www.dailyexcess.com/index.asp?refID=1666&subRefID=1395&curID=1&langID=1
most car hire company charge £7ish a day to reduce the Excess to Zero and these policies do not cover things like Tyres . the above do .
if you read The Times & The Sunday Times you will have read about their campaign for Car hire companies to clean up their act with regards to charging peoples credit card scandalous amounts after they have dropped off the car .
other things to do when renting :
Check the car on arrival before you drive off . make the agent is aware of any damage or major body work scratches ect .
take loads of photos (with time and date stamp if you can) of the car when you drop it off .
if the agent does not wish to check the car when you drop off your rental keys and paperwork , write " agent declined to inspect" across the paper work .
i had to make a claim from Insurance4carhire when i rented in this country . a stone chipped and ruined the wind screen of brand new Astra . Rental company charged me £50 ( fair enough ) and i then claimed the money back off the insurance . zero problems claiming and Cheque arrived within the week . :T
Enjoy Italy !!Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
Many thanks.
Naples...I know what you mean.
I'm looking to hire a large automatic for 2 weeks so the car rental will cost more than the flights!!
Re: the insurance, do you think I'm I likely to find combined travel insurance and car hire excess or best go for the two separate policies?0 -

i have never seen a combined policy . all you can do is try to find one , and the compare cover and cost with purchasing separate policies . i advise looking on the main article on travel insurance to find the bext deal

Use iCarhireinsurance.com. I have a policy with them and they are cheaper than all the rest. Their annual policy is £39.99 and you can use it on local rentals e.g if you need to use it within the UK.MasterChief0

Have you ever needed to claim on it?0 -
No, I have not claimed, but after looking at their claims notification process online, it looks very straight forward. It is what you would expect from these specialist websites. One good thing I see in iCarhireinsurance is that their claims telephone line is open 24 hours / 7 days a week.
Personally, I like this since I am always doing my home admin after 5pm and if I would need assistance, they are there to pick up the phone.
But like you said, I have not claimed, so I can't give you the nuts and bolts of their service.MasterChief0
