Have you looked at claiming dla? Its not counted as income for benefit purposes.

You be just abandoned with no money. You will be able to apply for JSA or if you are unable to work due to illness you can claim Employment Support Allowance (ESA).

What happens when your Income Support stops

Jobcentre Plus will contact you eight weeks before your Income Support is due to stop to tell you when your last payment is due. Jobcentre Plus will also invite you to an interview with an adviser, who will explain what you need to do to make a claim for another benefit if you have not found paid work.
It is very important that you attend this interview so that you continue to receive the right benefits and financial support if you need it.

In terms of Disability Living Allowance as suggested by the poster above, if you have mobility and/or care needs due to your disability, have had these needs for 3 months and are expected to have these care/mobility needs for at least a further 6 months then you'll be entitled to claim DLA.

If you have been incapable of work from before 30/12/09 you may be able to stay on income support on the grounds of incapacity rather than move to income based ESA.

You need to see a welfare rights specialist adviser at your local advice centre as you will need help to decide if you are better off on IS or on ESA and if it's IS you will also need help to secure ongoing entitlement.
