ALL scheduled carriers overbook by up to 20%. It's standard industry practice. A small percentage of pax, particularly those on flexible fare tickets or business class/first class wll not show up. Economy class pax who tend to be the leisure traveller will show.
Pax are generally compensated quite well for volunteering to offload onto a later flight/next day flight if the very worst happens and there are not enough seats. Compensation can range from £100-£1000 given in the form of vouchers or some airlines such as Virgin will offer a free flight anywhere on their network. They will quite possibly be given a free upgrade aswell on the new flight.
It's extremely rare for pax to be made to offload.0 -
So when I went to a cash machine earlier, to find they were out of notes...What you describe is rather like going to the bank to withdraw cash, only to be told that you cannot have your own cash today due to the fact that they've already given their allocation of cash out on that particular day.
Where does good customer service/relations figure in the equation here?0 -

I think that you will find that the post you refer to makes mention of banks, not cash machines.0 -

I actualy work for travelodge and it makes me mad at programs like this, if someone doesnt turn up for their room they are classed as a no show, if guests know they are going to be late they usually call to let the hotel know, but you cant give their room to someone else cos the system wont let you do it, you cant sell what you havent got, ive not had any experience of overbooking just to fill up the rooms, on the rare occasion when a room cant be sold due to maintenance problems and it has to go offline and the hotel is full the last person to check in will usually have to be outbooked to another hotel but the hotel is supposed to call that person to let them know they have accomodation for that night thats why your phone number and email address is required when booking so you can be contacted if there is a problem.0
