Is there any way to recover this ? I have tried the original but it won't accept it,I have tried the one I changed it to, but that wasn't right either! I did a Malwarebytes scan and saved it and the only way I can recover it is by using Admin.I am the only person that uses this PC.
Should I use the installation discs I got with the PC and will this be of any use? Yes, I know, stupid stupid person I am.
Any help will be gratefully received.

There are certainly tools that will reset an XP admin password because I've used one in the past so a quick google should throw some up. Don't know about Vista/Win 7 but once again google will be your friend and a lot quicker than asking on a forum.0

I'm not convinced I understand your problem, but let me try
You have a computer, you're the only user, and you have 2 accounts set on it, one admin (password protected) and one user (which you're using now)
If this is the case, I suggest downloading one of the various password recovery apps, pclogin appears to just delete the current passoword, so is a possible solution, but please read about it before trying.
Alternatively, you may have come against the "you need to be an administrator to run this program" or whatever the popup is, generally, right clicking the shortcut will bring up a list of options, one of which is "run as administrator"Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
I would suggest the so-called Offline NT Password and Registry Editor, which is an ISO file which has to be written to CD as a bootable disk...
Make sure you read all the caveats.0 -
Is Administrator being typed with A in upper case or lower case as it only let you log in with upper case A otherwise you would have to do what John Gray is suggesting.0

If you are correct this goes against 20 years of NT logon authentication, where the user name is case independent (e.g aDmIn) and the password must be in the exact case as originally entered!bengalknights wrote: »Is Administrator being typed with A in upper case or lower case as it only let you log in with upper case A otherwise you would have to do what John Gray is suggesting.0 -

On a standard windows home install where no names etc have been changed its always been a uppercase .It can be disabled though to accept the name in any format through local security settings.0
